Never Too Old to Wakeboard: Rémy's Journey from ACL Surgery to Water Sports Success
Share
When Rémy’s son was a teenager the family was out on a lake with a group of friends. These friends brought out a wakeboard –something Rémy had never done to that point. Rémy decided to stay in her lane, and she politely declined the invitation to wakeboard. Her son looked at her and said, “I never thought I’d see my mom get so old that she’d be afraid to try something new.” This lit a fire in Rémy and that day she learned how to wakeboard. She never looked back and wakeboarding became a major passion making her feel exhilarated and fulfilled. In addition, being out on the boat is an opportunity to be in nature and also a time to share uninterrupted moments with her family.
Water Sports Legacy: From Water Ski Stunts to Family Traditions
Rémy comes from a water family. From California and Florida, she grew up on the water. In the latter state, her family participated in the amateur arm of the Cypress Gardens Water Ski team. She did water ski stunts in parades and other community events. Being on the water with her friends, and loved ones helped her feel both at one with herself and connected to others. Rémy brought this joy of water sports into her marriage. She and her husband have been married for 38 years and have spent a considerable amount of that time on the water. Rémy has a son and a granddaughter she and her husband cherish.

The Day Everything Changed: A Lake Nacimiento ACL Injury
Early one summer morning Rémy and her husband found themselves in their favorite place: Lake Nacimiento. The water was cool and the mountain air crisp. A bald eagle soared overhead. A boat zipped across the lake water and Rémy was right behind it engaged in one of her life’s passions: wakeboarding. She was focused and she felt energetic and completely content. Wakeboarding that day, like so many before, also helped her feel at one with nature. This sport had provided her so much including the time she shared with her husband while out on the water. Suddenly, Rémy saw a line, and went for a jump. She missed. Her knee buckled, and she felt an excruciating pain. She had torn her ACL. The year was 2008 and before they even had breakfast that day she was left unsure if she’d ever wakeboard again.
Finding Hope: Rémy's Journey to Dr. Rosenberg's Revolutionary Treatment
Rémy maintained a high level of activity throughout her life until the day of her accident in 2008. Her ACL tear while wakeboarding brought a period of frustration and one that threatened her identity. She sought the best doctors in the Los Angeles area seeking a return to her active-based lifestyle as quickly as possible. None of them were the right fit. After conducting a lot of research she was extremely intrigued by the published studies of Dr. Rosenberg from Park City, Utah. He had published research on female athletes and their higher tendency to tear ACLs than males. His treatment for such tears was extremely unique across the world. She set an appointment and dragged her skeptical husband to Utah to consult with Dr. Rosenberg. Within minutes of the appointment starting the couple knew this was the right treatment plan for Rémy. In addition to surgery, it was recommended she begin a regimen of Nutriex Sport. She did so and then got surgery in August of 2008. In spite of the difficulties of invasive surgery, Rémy felt hope.

Back on the Board: A Nine-Month Journey from Surgery to Success
Following the operation Rémy participated in what she describes as an incredible rehab experience. She completed her strength work, stretching, and was also committed to an anti-inflammatory diet. She took Nutriex Sport religiously and after 9 months from going under the knife she was standing on a wakeboard wearing a magnificent smile. She had experienced the depths of despair wondering if she’d ever ride a board again. Now, here she was on the water as strong as she’d ever been. In addition to her water time the surgery augmented her mobility allowing her to pursue many other passions.

Continuing the Legacy: Sharing Water Sports with the Next Generation
Rémy’s interests aren’t limited to their connection to boats. She has always been a very active person. Her son was a competitive dirt biker while he came of age. Rémy brought her skills in marketing –which is her day job– to her son’s dirtbiking helping him to obtain high level sponsorships. She describes herself as a “pit-mom,” and she and her husband accompanied their son around the United States to assist in his racing.
Today, her Nutriex journey continues. Rémy and her husband find themselves on the lake as much as they can. They currently are sharing the joys of the water with their granddaughter and, thanks to Nutriex, Rémy is looking forward to many more years of doing what she loves with those she loves.
