Health Benefits
Speed Recovery
Athletes with an established baseline of optimal nutrition have a shorter treatment time and faster return to sport, up to a 25% reduction in time required compared to athletes experiencing nutritional deficiencies.
Improve Training Response
Rigorous training causes free radicals (reactive oxygen species) to collect in muscle, lungs and connective tissue. Rapid reversal of free radicals requires ample antioxidants, which may shorten the response time associated with athletic conditioning and recovery from injury and surgery.
Maximize Endurance Training
Endurance athletes require more key nutrients to maximize their training. Important supplementary nutrients include zinc, selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E, alpha lipoic acid, calcium, omega-3s flaxseed oil, magnesium and plant-derived antioxidants.
Withstand the Effects of Intense Activity
Athletes sometimes suffer later in life as a result of participation in a sport. Preventive nutritional support fuels natural pathways for healing, thereby promoting lifetime physical activity.
Boost Immune Response
High physical stress can prolong recovery from viral illnesses. Optimal supply of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants is fundamentally important to maintaining an immune system.
Support Cartilage, Tendon, Ligament, and Bone Health
Cartilage
Healing of early cartilage injury is possible, but dependent on nutrient factors like glucosamine, chondroitin, and vitamin E.
Tendons
Tendons are maintained by very few cells and these cells require anti-oxidants and collagen-directed nutrients like vitamin C, zinc, copper, manganese and glucosamine. Tendon cells need “all the help they can get” especially during flexibility training. Major interruptions in tendon exercise (greater than 4 weeks) are undesirable and may lead to loss of tendon strength.
Ligaments
Ligament strength is nutritionally dependent. Similar to tendons, ligaments respond to regular training and optimal nutrition by becoming stronger and less susceptible to injury. The nutrients vitamin E, vitamin C and glucosamine are needed for optimal training response. Following injury, healing ligaments have increased nutritional requirements. A six month recovery period may be necessary to regain adequate ligament strength.
Bone
Optimal nutritional allows bone to maximize its intrinsic strength during training by becoming more resistant to traumatic fractures, stress fractures and bone bruises. Bone depends not only on calcium and magnesium, but also on the key nutrients vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin D, potassium, zinc, copper and manganese.
FAQ
Below you will find some of the most frequently asked questions about Nutriex products. If you have a question and don’t see the answer here, please feel free to Contact Us.
Is glucosamine safe for diabetics?
Yes, glucosamine is safe for diabetics as well as for those with pre-diabetes. While there have been a few individual reports that glucosamine raised blood sugar levels and there have also been some animal studies suggesting the same, many well-designed studies on large numbers of people have shown otherwise. These studies are placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind and have evaluated various factors such as fasting vs. not and lean vs. obese. None have shown any negative effect on blood sugar.
Is there MSM in Nutriex Sport or Health?
No, none of our products contain MSM. MSM is a cartilage nutrient that is thought to work by providing a source of sulfur for rebuilding and repair. Instead, our Sport and Health products provide sulfur through chondroitin sulfate, which is backed by a lot more research and validation than MSM. Because chondroitin provides adequate sulfur supply, we have no need to include the less-validated MSM.
Why do I need to take so many pills?
Sport and Health are unique in that they contain many different nutrients (44 in Sport, 42 in Health, to be exact) at quantities high enough to provide a health benefit (rather than just prevent disease). We purchased individual supplements to make an equivalent to our Sport and Health products. Below is a breakdown of the # of products, pills, and daily cost:
|

Which would you rather buy? Nutriex products are simple, safe (no overloading of nutrients that overlap when you buy multiple products), less expensive, concentrated, convenient, and highest quality.
Can’t your Sport and Health products be more concentrated?
We wish we could pack the same nutrition into fewer capsules. Many of the individual nutrients are “macro” nutrients, meaning that they’re included at a higher level AND that they take up a lot of space. Calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, glucosamine, and chondroitin account for most of it. If you want to take fewer capsules, consider our Basic37 product. It contains a full day’s serving in only 2 capsules a day. You’ll notice, however that it contains smaller quantities of the macro nutrients and no glucosamine or chondroitin.
I understand you regularly update your products. What are the most recent changes to Sport?
Yes, a “new and improved” Sport is in the works. Every few years we do a major review of recent research to determine if we should: 1) add new ingredients, 2) remove ingredients, 3) change the quantities of any of the ingredients, or 4) change the source of any of the ingredients. We also review our proposed changes with our Science Panel, a group of experts in various fields of specialty like orthopedics, ophthalmology, cardiology and request their feedback and recommendations for any other changes. We have implemented the following changes to our Sport product:
- Increased vitamin K levels (120 mcg instead of 80 mcg); meets the recently increased 100% Daily Value
- Decreased folate to meet the new FDA definition of dietary folate equivalency (DFE); % Daily Value remains the same
- Added more bioavailable forms of several B-vitamins to allow for better absorption and utilization
- Riboflavin-5-phosphate added as an additional source of Vitamin B2 (riboflavin); same total quantity
- Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate added as an additional source of Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine); same total quantity
- Methylcobalamin added as a replacement for cyanocobalamin
- Switched glucosamine to a plant-based, shellfish-free form to remove shellfish allergen
- Replaced some of the Bromelain with Boswellia for complementary anti-inflammatory and joint health benefits
You’ll also notice a new look to our labels as well as some substantial Supplement Facts modifications; these are to comply with recently changed FDA regulations and requirements. Know that our formulations are the same with the exception of the above-mentioned changes.
The reformulated Sport is currently available.

I really want to take the Sport formula, but am terribly allergic to shellfish. What do you recommend?
Both our Sport and Health products now contain a shellfish-free glucosamine. Anyone with a shellfish allergy can safely take either product if the label describes the glusosamine as “vegetarian, shellfish-free.”
